OUR MISSION
|
| Dominion Covenant Church is a church that is committed to advancing
and enjoying the dominion of King Jesus over every area of life. Daniel 7:13-14
cites Christ's ascension to heaven on the clouds as the time when He "was given
dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should
serve Him." |
|
Since "His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and
His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed" (v. 14), we can have confidence
that the Great Commission will be fulfilled. The Great Commission is not merely a
call to evangelize a few individuals out of every nation, but to disciple the
nations themselves. It is a bold conquest of the world that can be encapsulated in
the following "alls." |
| All Authority |
| Christ said, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth" (Matt. 28:18). Not some authority or most authority, but "all authority."
There is no square inch of planet earth over which Christ does not have authority.
He has the authority to rule over the state, business, farming, science, art,
economics, education, etc. This means that all of life must be governed by His
Law-Word. Christ will not be satisfied until all enemies are placed under His feet
(1 Corinthians 15:20-28), and "He will not fail nor be discouraged, till He has
established justice in the earth; and the coastlands shall wait for His law"
(Isaiah 42:4). A major portion of the church's ministry must be to call all
competing authorities to repentance through the faithful teaching of the Law-Word
of Scripture. |
| All Nations |
| Christ said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"
(Matt. 28:19). His mandate is not fulfilled when a few people out of every nation
are converted and discipled. Christ calls Christians to transform and disciple the
nations as nations so that the whole culture becomes a Christian culture and every
area of life submits to God's Word. When this happens, the family, the church and
the state (as separate jurisdictions) will all be fulfilling their God-ordained
functions. Though we must separate church and state jurisdictionally, we must not
separate God and state. Missions must have nation-discipling as its ultimate goal.
Part of Dominion Covenant Church's vision is to bring Reformation to the church so
that it gains the kind of saltiness to impact every level of a nation's culture. |
| All Scripture |
| Christ went on to say, "teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you" (Matt. 28:19). Christ commanded the church to both teach and
obey even "the least of these commandments" taught in the "Law and the Prophets"
(Matt. 5:17-19). He did not want even "one jot or one tittle" of Old Testament
Scripture neglected "till heaven and earth pass away" (Matt. 5:18). Dominion
Covenant Church is committed to teaching the Bible, the whole Bible and nothing but
the Bible. This includes the Old Testament blueprints for civics, economics, art,
etc. Christ said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4). |
| All the days |
| Christ promised, "lo I am with you always [literally "all the days"],
even to the end of the age" (Matt. 28:20). We reject the notion that there is more
power in Christ's physical presence than in His spiritual presence with the church.
Though we look with eager anticipation to the physical Second Coming of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, we also rejoice in His powerful presence with the church
throughout this age. He who cannot lie has promised, "I will build My church, and
the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). |
| Summary |
| In summary, we want to see our members so founded in God's grace, so
knowledgeable in God's law, and so confident in His promises, that they are used of
God to bring Reformation to the church and Reconstruction of society. Our church
will not rest or be satisfied (Is. 62:6-7) until all human authority submits to
Christ (Matt. 28:18), all nations are discipled (Matt. 28:19), all Scripture is
followed (Matt. 28:20a) and all of Christ's presence and resources are claimed
(Matt. 28:20b). Anything less than an expectation of total victory for King Jesus
in history (1 Cor. 15:24-28) does not do justice to the all encompassing mandate of
the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20). |
